Barbara, Marsha, Karen A., and Donna.
A lot of work went into these projects and it will be interesting
to see if any more of these "pop up" in the future.
Winners of the challenge were:
Most traditional- Rhonda
Most non-traditional- Karen K.
Best use of embellishments- Pearl
Most elegant- Judy
Best workmanship- Maryln
People’s choice- Maryln

October – Trick or Treat swap- Bring a project to swap with
others. For each one you bring, you get to take one home. These
should be actual projects, not a lone pattern or fabric. They can be
at any state of completion, from just a pattern +fabric, to
partially done, to just needs to be quilted. Tired of working on
something? Just bring it in and find something new.
November - Betsy Chutchian, author of "Gone to Texas: Quilts from
a Pioneer Woman's Journal"
December - Holiday Supper- graciously hosted by Georgia Calloway
Workshops
Wonky Squares- Several guild members have finished their tops
from this workshop, Jeanne and Claudia are donating theirs to
charity.
October- "Sit-n-sew". Got something you’re working on and too
many distractions at home? Want to start on your holiday projects
with no prying eyes? Or just want to help with the pillow case
project? Join us at the October guild sew-in on Saturday, Oct. 16th
at
10:00 at the new shop on the corner of Broad and Cedar in downtown
Cedar Hill.

Million pillowcase challenge- Many worthy
organizations and causes can benefit from pillowcases, including
nursing homes, domestic violence shelters, foster children and the
homeless.
Guild members wishing to participate may make pillowcases to
bring to our monthly guild meeting. Let us know if you have a
charity you would like to have us donate some of the pillowcases to.
Business
1. Revised by-laws will be voted on at the October meeting. Don’t
forget to look at the changes which were emailed to you.
2. November is the month to sign the contract at the rec center
to reserve meeting space. Members were asked to think of other
possible locations for the future.
3. Guild members will participate in the "Pioneer days" event at
the Cedar Hill state park on Sat. Oct. 9th.
Raffle quilt
The winning ticket for the raffle quilt will be drawn next
weekend, on Saturday October 9th,
at "Country day on the Hill", in Cedar Hill. Please turn in all
tickets and money before then to Drena.
BOM
The pattern for the October BOM is this tree block.

Next month we start a new BOM project. Members are asked to bring
in a pattern for a "star" block, and each month we will draw one or
2 block patterns to be used for the next months BOM. At the end of
the project we should have enough coordinated blocks for a "Star"
quilt. It will be really 5
fun to see the different ways participants go about "Setting" the
blocks for their quilts.
Prize drawing
winners:
1. Door prizes: Joan, Claudia, Barbara, Alverta, and Jan.
2. Name tag fat quarters: Drena, Rhonda, and Claudia.
Show and Tell:
CJ- I made another purse at retreat. 1 down, 2 more to go before
the holidays.
Jeanne- A. The scam- Pattern showing what looks like 1 block
quilt, B. 20 block log cabin quilt made following pattern from A, C.
1 block log cabin quilt- drafted and sewn by Jeanne
Kathy- Project from Harriett Hargrave "Quilter’s academy 1".
Interesting how different quilters stress different keys to good
quilting- Harriett Hargrave stresses, lots of starch and fanning the
seams, whereas Kay England utilizes the "no-press" technique.
Pat - Finished top from the "Wonky Squares" workshop, she didn’t
even get to attend the class, but picked it all up afterwards and is
already done. All but 2 of the fabrics were from stash. Yea!
Ann - King quilt for daughter-in-law and son. Wyoming star.
Georgia- Mystery quilt started a year ago at Just-stitchin. I
call it Mardi Gras. Quilted by Donna. This is the smaller block
version of the pattern used for the Christmas raffle quilt.
Peggy- UFO quilt, blocks from a neighborhood challenge, and
setting by Arlington guild members during a charity sew-in.
Drena- "Mama’s Star", my mother pieced the star and I finished
the quilt. Mary E. one of our retreat buddies from Wisconsin,
quilted it.
Charlotte- Wonky Square top made from I-spy nickel swap. 6
Barbara- 1. Antique crazy quilt from her mother 2. Flower quilt-
quilted by Gloria D.

For Baby
By Nancy Riddell of Loveland, CO
It's OK if you sit on your quilt.
It's OK if your bottle gets spilt.
If you swallow some air and you burp, don't despair,
It's OK if you spit on your quilt.
There are scraps old and new on your quilt.
Put together for you on your quilt.
If your gums feel numb
'Cause your teeth haven't come,
It's OK if you chew on your quilt.
We expect you to lie on your quilt.
If you hurt, you may cry on your quilt.
On a cold rainy night,
Don't you fret; you're all right'
You'll be snug, warm and dry on your quilt.
