Raffle quilt

Next year’s raffle quilt will be called “Honoring our Quilting Heritage”.  Block patterns and fabric were passed out at the January meeting.  Please bring back the finished blocks to the February meeting or drop them off  before then at Corner square quilt’s.  Contact Maryln, Jeanne T., or Barbara for more information.

There has been a suggestion to change the drawing for the quilts to give more time to sell the tickets for both.  We are considering changing the drawing for the 1st quilt to just after the TAQG rally to take advantage of this as a potential for large sales, and the drawing for the Christmas raffle quilt to the 1st week in December, to take advantage of ticket sales at Cedar Hill’s Country Days, and Pioneer days at Cedar Hill state park.  Please give this your consideration, and there will be a vote soon.

Treasury/Retreat:

For those who have not yet re-joined the guild for 2011, please remember to bring your membership dues of $24 to the February meeting.

Unpaid retreat fees are also due at this time.  For those arriving Thurs., March 3 at noon, the fee is $238.90, for those arriving Fri. the fee is $152.60.  Directions to the Compass Centre may be found at http://www.compasscentre.com/location.asp  don’t forget to bring a brown bag door prize if you’d like to participate in the drawing.

Prizes

Door prizes- Suzie H., Donna, Georgia, Joan, Ann A., Peggy B. and Charlotte.

Name tag fat 1/4s- Mary T., Ann, and Jeanne T.   We need to replenish the fat ¼ stock, please bring in a fat ¼ wrapped up in a toilet paper roll to the Feb. meeting.

Guild T-shirts:

Designs and T-shirt colors were voted on, and shirt orders will be taken at the Feb. meeting.

Magazine/Book Challenge:

A new challenge has been issued to use your books and magazines to create quilt projects.  Make a finished flimsy (top) using a pattern from one of  your myriad of  quilt books or magazines.  Bring in the top, and magazine or book, and we will enter your name in a drawing to be held in Dec for prizes.  One entry per completed flimsy.  There will be a prize for the person with the most finished tops, and 2 random drawings from the rest of the entries.  Got a UFO from a book?  Get R done for an easy entry.

BOM- Be A Star Gazer

This month’s block is the Ohio Star.  Only one pattern was drawn this month to allow members to also have time to work on the raffle quilt.

Most months we will draw 2 block patterns for you to choose from, for the next months BOM.  At the end of the project we should have enough coordinated blocks for a great star quilt.

Guild Members who quilt for profit/nonprofit-

Amy Jameson

I am a longarm quilter for profit.  Quilting is how I am able to financially contribute to our family while staying home to raise out little man, Jett.  There is something new that our precious boy discovers every day and I love that quilting allows me the opportunity to be a part of it!  I quilt out of my home in Cedar Hill across the street from Uptown Village just off of 67 and Pleasant Run.  I specialize in freehand designs on my stitch regulated longarm.  You will not find any pantographs in my studio and rulers are rarely used.  I much prefer to let things to flow.  I enjoy combining standard and unconventional quilting elements to create a personalized design at a reasonable price.  I personally meet with each client and do a consultation in which we work together to decide what will best meet the needs and taste preferences of the future owner of the quilt.  We just might create a whole new quilting design exclusive to your quilt!  I provide a detailed price quote at that time and estimated completion time.  Because my specialty is not highly detailed heirloom quilting that requires extensive ruler and template work, I tend to have a short lead time.  I do keep Hobbs 80/20 batting in stock or can use batting you bring.  And don’t forget to bring your pre-made binding.  I will machine stitch it to the front of the quilt lickedy split for a nominal fee!

To set up a consultation, please contact me by phone at (817) 271-4000 or by email at amyfaith@sbcglobal.net

**I do need the names of fellow quilters that specialize in pantographs and heirloom quilting (particularly extensive stitch in the ditch work) to refer clients to that are seeking those specialties!

Carolyn Ivory

I take in quilting for the public and am a longarm quilter for Quilts of Valor.

I have a HQ16 machine on an 11 foot frame with a PC Quilter added. I specialize in edge to edge designs on smaller size quilts. The absolute largest width quilt I can load on my frame and allow for machine room on either side of the quilt is 100 inches.

I have had my machine for 2 years and the computer was added one year ago. I enjoyed learning how to quilt with rulers and pantographs but was frustrated with not being able to follow the designs perfectly with the laser light. I wanted a computer add on, but couldn’t afford the high price for the computers I looked at. The PC Quilter was so much more affordable and I’ve been delighted to be able to create much more accurate designs with it than I was able to do with pantographs alone. I’ve enjoyed all the fun patterns I can buy and customize for any project.

I can digitize custom patterns for quilting on my system and for other quilting systems. I also offer printing on freezer paper for appliqué and on fabric for redwork patterns, photographs or custom labels.
