Welcome

Welcome to our 4 visitors, Charlotte C., Mary D., Tammy K., and Elizabeth C., and new member Colby L.  The meeting was opened by President Donna.  The minutes of the last meeting were accepted.

Nominating committee-

It is time to elect new officers.  Do you have ideas of things you’d like to see happen at, or for, the guild?  Do you like it just the way it is?  Volunteer to be an officer and help build the guild into the group you envision.  There is always room for new ideas, or new old ideas, could you spare the time to help?  Cheryl, Georgia, Drena and Rhonda have agreed to be on the nominating committee for the new guild officers.  Please contact one of them if you are interested or willing to be an officer.

Programs

September-  President’s challenge voting. Project- Wool Appliqué.  There was a lot of participation in the wool appliqué challenge.

The winner’s were:

President’s choice: Charlotte H.

People’s choice: Maryln

Best workmanship: Maryln

Best use of color: Judy

Most Creative: Julie L.

“I wish it was mine”: Claudia

“It made me smile”: Karen K.

Other great projects and creative ideas came from Marsha, Ella, Emily, Colby, Donna, Barbara, and Amy. (Hope I didn’t miss anyone).

October- Trick or treat.  UFO project exchange.  Do you have a project you don’t see the beauty in any more, is just too hard, or are just plain tired of working on?  Put it in a bag and bring it to the Oct. meeting for the “Trick or Treat” swap, but beware (hear the Halloween music here?) if you bring one, you take one home.  Did you get one last year at the swap, and now know why the 1st owner became disillusioned?  As long as you have advanced the project some, you can bring it back to trade again.  Did you finish the prize you got?  Bring it back to show off.  Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun last year looking at all the projects, so let’s try to make it a hit again.

(To be fair to other participants all donations need to be actual projects, not just a couple of fat quarters and a pattern.)

November- B&T designs, Barbara McGraw, and Teresa Sherling will talk about Baltimore Album quilts.

December- Christmas potluck and ornament exchange.

TAQG-

CHQG will help put on the 2013 TAQG rally.  The speaker will be Sue Reich.  If you would like to volunteer to be on the committee representing CHQG in planning this event, please contact Maryln.

Orphan block charity project-  Jeanne has asked us to bring in our unwanted orphan blocks to make into charity quilts for older children.  Others are invited to help make the blocks into quilts for donation.

Charity Quilt kits-  Batting, thread and fabric donations for the quilts and kits will always be welcome.  The guild purchased a 60 yd. roll of 80/20 Pellon batting, for charity projects.  It is being stored at Corner Square Quilts.  If you need some for a charity project you can pick it up there.

Raffle quilt

Thanks to Gloria, Karen and Kathy for taking the raffle quilt to the Allen quilter’s reception to sell tickets.

The raffle quilt will be drawn on Oct. 8, at the Cedar Hill Days celebration.  Please bring all money and raffle tickets not yet turned in, to the Corner Square Quilt shop before Saturday.

Cookbook-

Karen A. and Julie B. are collecting recipes to produce a guild cookbook.  Each member is asked to send in 3 recipes.  The format for the recipes is attached, please use this so they don’t have to be re-typed.  The guild voted to collect recipes with the plan that if participation is adequate, we will again vote to publish the cookbook.

Library:

The new library cart is a big hit.  Thanks Claudia.  Now you can access all the guilds library books during the meetings.

Ella- Sensational Settings, by Joan Hanson

Barbara-  Pink Lemonade and other delights, by Linda Johnson.  Pattern- “Quilt Day and Night”.

Charlotte- 1. Magic Stack n Whack quilts, by Bethany Reynolds.  2.  Bargello with a Twist, by Maggie Ball.

Pizza Box Swap-

We will be starting another “Pizza Box” swap at the October meeting.  For those participating, don’t forget to bring in your boxes and block patterns.

Here’s how it works.  Bring in a pizza box, or other small light weight box containing the pattern for the block you would like other swappers to make for you.  You may also include templates, tools, and fabric if you want something special used in construction of your block.  Each month you will receive a different swapper’s box to make the block for them.  The next month you will pass that box to the next name on the list and receive another.  If you can’t get it done one month, copy the pattern and stick an IOU in the box, then add the finished block to the correct box the next month.

BOM- Scrappy Strip block
