Instructions for
Gown and Bonnet
Colors: Pink
and Blue are great, but green and yellow are also good
because they can be used for either boy or girl.
Below are the original instructions, these are not
hard and fast rules.
Feel free to use your own experience and creativity to
finish the garments.
You will find the patterns in the inside pocket of
this folder.
Gown – Pattern “A”
•
With right sides together, sew should seams together.
•
Finish sleeve edges by serging
and applying narrow ruffled lace, or zig zagging edge and applying lace. Repeat for neckline and down the back
opening.
•
With right sides together, sew dress from hem to bottom
of sleeve opening.
•
Finish bottom edge the same as the neckline or just hem
a narrow hem.
•
Add a small bow at the neckline.
Bonnet – Pattern “B”
Sew A to A seams, and B to B. Now you have what looks like a box shape
missing two sides. Slightly gather the
bottom edge on your serger or sewing machine. Finish face edging the same way you did the
neckline of the gown. Take a long piece
of ¼” ribbon and mark the middle with a pin.
Matching the middle of the ribbon with the middle of
the back of the bonnet stitch the ribbon on the bonnet along the bottom edge,
leaving the ends for ties. Apply
fray check to the cut edges of the ribbon or tie ends into a small knot. The bonnet can easily be sized up.
